Kindergarten– Year 2
The McDonald College is Australia’s premier performance-centred school. We take a holistic approach to your child’s education by enhancing the academic, creative, physical, and social aspects of their development.
We tap into your child’s natural creativity with skills-based activities of dance, music, singing and acting, integrated into each learning day. We foster not only individual academic growth but also confidence in expression and communication.
Academic
- Our focus is on building strong academic foundations in literacy and numeracy. Our engaging, enquiry-based learning approach supports and guides children to be well-prepared for the next phase of their learning lives. Our Infants program is structured to ease the transition to Primary School.
Creativity
Performance genres include Dance (jazz / ballet combination), Music, and Acting. Your child will also get the opportunity to participate at in-house and external performance events, including Starburst at The Parade Theatre, NIDA.
Physical
We understand that to develop both gross and fine motor skills, young children need to learn how they can move. By participating in gymnastics, acrobatics as well as regular PE activities, they develop fitness, agility and coordination.
Social
We aim to nurture self-aware, confident, and resilient little humans who think for themselves and importantly of others. We actively encourage collaboration especially when it comes to problem-solving.
Staff
Our experienced and dedicated staff develop programs based on peer-reviewed research. Small class sizes mean we can offer truly personal support to each child. We modify the pace and content of the activities as needed.
Buddies
In your child’s first week, they are paired up with a buddy – some of whom have been with us since Kindergarten. The older children play a big role in the young ones’ socialisation into the inclusive environment that The McDonald College is known for.
The Kindergarten – Year 2 schedule
- All children start their day at 8.25am.
- Kindergarten finishes their day at 2.45pm in Term 1 and at 3pm for the remainder of the year. Kindergarten students engage in Performing Arts for 45 minutes a day.
- Years 1 & 2 finish their day at 3.25pm. They enjoy 1 hour a day of Performing Arts, 4 days a week.

Jane Devine
In 1972 Jane Devine was accepted into The Royal Ballet School. In 1973 she won the Adeline Genee Gold Medal, and the following year was offered a place in The Royal Ballet Company, Covent Garden.
At the English National Ballet, Jane danced many leading roles including Odile in Swan Lake, Zebiode in Scheherazade, Red Lady in Sanguine Fan.
Added to her expertise in the anatomical and physiological aspects that underpin the physicality of ballet, Jane is also interested in the psychological aspects required and works towards guiding dancers on an educated, responsible and self-empowered journey of their own careers.
