Secondary School Music – learning from the pros

This second term was a lot of fun for the Music Stream. In collaboration with the Australian Institute of Music (AIM), we spent Industry Day workshopping and playing with the tutors and professional musicians, showcasing tunes in progress, and finessing the art of rehearsal and performance. It was a great day spent as a whole stream from Years 7 – 12, culminating in a performance of all the tunes we have worked on.

We have finished the term with two amazing Showcases, the Year 7 – 9 cohort presenting a Mixed Bag of tunes, from Coldplay to Queen and everything in between, thoroughly enjoyed by the big crowd supporting the students. 

The Senior Showcase was a collection of songs requested by the students’ parents, aptly named You asked for it! The students took the opportunity to play and sing tunes that their parents have always wanted to hear them perform, and it was a fantastic night of hits from the likes of Whitney Houston, Tina Arena, Guns and Roses and Billy Joel.
