Big Readers for Little Listeners: Older Students Volunteer for Storytime

Last week, our Library services team decided to do something a little different. They put out a call for student volunteers to read to our kindergarteners. The result? Ten enthusiastic older students ready to share their favourite stories!

Among the volunteers were a few students from our Acting stream, who gave their readings a lively twist. Their acting skills brought characters to life in a way that had the kindergarteners fully engaged—some were even asking for rereads by the end!

This wasn’t just fun for the little ones. The experience gave the older students a chance to step up and connect with their younger schoolmates. Many found it rewarding to take on a role model position and share a skill as simple and powerful as reading aloud. For the kindergarteners, it was a mix of entertainment and learning, with big kids showing just how fun books can be.

Storytime brought both groups together and reminded us how something as small as a book and a few voices can create a meaningful moment for everyone.
