Screening: Mental Health & the Actor’s Life
‘Mental Health & the Actor’s Life’ is a candidly raw, yet hopeful journey that equips young people who seek a career in the entertainment industry with the necessary tools to monitor their mental and emotional health whilst simultaneously striving to be their best.
Actor, director and writer, Dr Daniel Widdowson, explores the highs, lows, benefits and dangers of the entertainment industry’s effects on actors and their mental health.
Contributors include casting agent Tom McSweeney, Opera Australia’s Todd Keys, Miss Universe 2021 Daria Varlamova, RFDS actor Ben Brock, Neighbours star Brad McMurray, musical theatre legend Sophie Carter, actress Sarah Monahan and more.
After the initial live event screenings, the film will be made freely available as an online resource, coupled with long form interviews, coping mechanisms and links to a number of mental health & creative arts organisations.
The documentary contains discussions around depression, anxiety, rejection, neurodiversity, mental health training, post-show blues, suicide, creating safe spaces, sexual abuse, and more.
Among the interviews in the film is our 2024 school captain, Emma King.
The film will be screened at our school on Saturday, March 22nd.
Tickets are free, but spots are limited, so please RSVP.
