Screening: Mental Health & the Actor’s Life
‘Mental Health & the Actor’s Life’ is a candidly raw yet hopeful journey that equips young people seeking a career in the entertainment industry with the necessary tools to monitor their mental and emotional health while striving to be their best.
Acclaimed actor, director, writer and Australian of the Year finalist Dr Daniel Widdowson explores the highs, lows, benefits and dangers of the entertainment industry’s effects on actors and their mental health.
Contributors include casting agent Tom McSweeney, Opera Australia’s Todd Keys, Miss Universe 2021 Daria Varlamova, RFDS actor Ben Brock, Neighbours star Brad McMurray, musical theatre legend Sophie Carter, actress Sarah Monahan and more.
After the initial live event screenings, the film will be freely available as an online resource, coupled with long-form interviews, coping mechanisms, and links to a number of mental health and creative arts organisations.
The documentary contains discussions around depression, anxiety, rejection, neurodiversity, mental health training, post-show blues, suicide, creating safe spaces, sexual abuse, and more.
Among the interviews in the film are our 2024 school captain, Emma King and 2024 graduate Jamie Rogers.
The film will be screened at our school on Saturday, 22 March from 7pm.
