Junior School takes over the music stage
We ended Term 1 with the Junior School Music Competitions Evening. This annual event took place in the Conference Centre in early April. Students were required to present two contrasting pieces on the Competition Evening, and a guest adjudicator sat in as a judge. The audience enjoyed listening to a range of musical styles performed by participants in the Instrumental Competition: Alexis Djordjevic (piano), Alira Djordjevic (violin), Madison Lok (violin), and Cameron Sherer (acoustic guitar), and participants in the Vocal Competition included Lior Drimer, Akira Guiguen, Alyssa Jindal, Madison Lok, Bianca Papa, and Elin Pavlakos.
The performances by all students were fantastic and enjoyed by a very supportive audience of parents, students and staff. A special thanks goes out to our adjudicator Fenix Martinez, our vocal and instrumental tutors for preparing the students and our accompanist, Lucy Bermingham.
Congratulations to our overall award recipients:
- Instrumental Competition Winner: Cameron Sherer
- Instrumental Competition Highly Commended: Alira Djordjevic
- Vocal Competition Winner: Bianca Papa
- Vocal Competition Highly Commended: Lior Drimer
- Vocal Competition Highly Commended: Madison Lok
The musical highlight for Term 2 was the annual Junior School Music Showcase. The theme of this year’s Junior School Music Showcase was A Musical Evening at the Zoo.
The concert’s first half featured each class performing an item they have been working on with Mrs Sherer during their Curriculum Music lessons. There were many speech rhymes, singing and moving, combined with percussion, boom whackers, recorders, ukuleles, and xylophones.
The concert’s second half featured our Instrumental Ensembles, including String, Woodwind, Percussion and Guitar Ensembles. These ensembles performed their own piece and combined to perform Old McDonald Had A Farm – and they even replicated animal sounds on their instruments! The Junior School Rock Band entertained the audience with Katy Perry’s Roar. The beginning of the Showcase featured the Junior School singing Down to the Zoo, and the Showcase ended with Talk to the Animals.
It is gratifying to witness their continuous improvement, particularly as many of the students only started learning their instrument at the start of this year and see the smiles on the faces of our young musicians as they perform to supportive audiences of family and friends.
