Musical Theatre Mastery: Our Students Shine

Throughout Term 3, both the Junior and Senior Musical Theatre Streams have demonstrated exceptional dedication and creativity in their preparation for the upcoming Showcase.

Senior Stream

The Senior cohort has engaged deeply with a diverse repertoire, working under the guidance of our wonderful faculty. They have tackled challenging numbers from Sweeney Todd with Dylan Pollard, explored the distinctive choreography of Fosse with Emma Lee Lansley, brought the vibrant energy of 42nd Street to life with Portia England, and embarked on a unique artistic venture with Kate Dunn’s untitled experimental work.

In their exploration of Untitled, the students have engaged in a collaborative process that integrates voice, text, and movement to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling. This conceptual piece aims to innovate by blending these elements in novel ways to captivate and engage the audience. The students have excelled in creating movement through task-based exercises, harmonizing without words, and embodying character without text This multifaceted approach has significantly contributed to their growth and skill development in the field of musical theatre.

As the Year 12 students prepare for their High School Certificate (HSC) examinations and college applications, we extend our best wishes to them. Their talent and dedication are undeniable, and while their departure will be a considerable loss for McDonald College, we are confident that they will achieve remarkable success in their future endeavours.

Junior Stream

The Junior Stream has also demonstrated remarkable commitment as they prepare for Showcase. Under the direction of Kate Dunn, students have worked on selections from Waitress with Dylan Pollard, while Portia England has guided them through the engaging world of Shrek. Additionally, Kate Dunn has led them in performances from Jersey Boys.

In parallel to their performance work, the Junior students have continued to hone their technical skills and apply principles of preparation, planning, and organization. These foundational skills are crucial for their development as emerging artists. This cohort is characterized by their dedication, kindness, and articulate storytelling abilities, contributing to a supportive and creative environment.

We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to present the students’ work during Showcase Week at NIDA. Their hard work and passion for musical theatre promises to be an inspiring and memorable performance experience for all.
