Junior School ‘Connections’
On 18 May the Junior School Music Showcase celebrated ‘Connections’ by presenting a variety of musical genres on the theme.
Kindergarten showed the connection between literacy and music by performing It’s Great When You Know the Alphabet. Music and movement were explored in Waltz in Ab and alongside their Year 6 buddies, they enthusiastically performed A Ram Sam Sam.
Year 3 / 4 played a Beatles classic on the recorder and used boomwhackers on a ballet barre to play the theme music from Tetris – the old video game where you connect shapes.
Year 5 showed off their ukulele skills by playing and singing Lean on Me and used body percussion and movement to explore phrasing and structure for a well-known piece Rondo Alla Turka by Mozart.
Year 6 played an impressive three-part arrangement of Consider Yourself on our newly-tuned percussion instruments and performed a self-choreographed routine about the Montagues and Capulets, accompanied by Year 6 students on piano and cello.
The Performing Arts Instrumental Ensembles, including String Ensemble, Woodwind / Brass Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and Guitar Ensemble, as well as the Electives Rock Band, and Primary String Quartet, performed a range of challenging and entertaining pieces.
The beginning of the Showcase featured all of the Junior School singing Bonjour Mes Amis and the Showcase ended with Friendship Canon featuring Kindergarten students saying “friend” in different languages.
The kids loved performing for a live audience again!
