The students’ gambit
The Junior School’s Monday afterschool activity is Chess Club where a small group of avid players challenge each other in this traditional and thought-provoking activity. At lunchtimes, many other students enjoy playing chess too.
We asked some of the students about their strategies and philosophies when it came to game time.
Cameron Sherer (Year 3) informed us “It is not what your move is, it is what the other person is going to do that is important.”
Lily Bone (Year 4) said her strategy was “to always protect my King and Queen.”
And Jebin Cha (Year 6) left us with this sage advice “Winning or losing is not the main thing to be thinking about when playing chess.”
