History music video project
Music provides a rich and evocative cultural source for any history classroom and engages students in considering the interplay between historical change and popular culture.
Our Year 10 History students analysed a range of songs of social justice, freedom and civil rights from both the USA and Australia as historical sources contributing to the milieu of civil rights activism since the middle of the 20th century. Students engaged with the work of Baker Boy (pictured), Lauryn Hill, Arrested Development, Childish Gambino, Marvin Gaye, Kendrick Lamar, Billie Holiday and many more.
It’s been a great project which has really engaged the students with a deep understanding of the nature and relevance of the stories of civil rights movements across the 20th century.
