PDHPE Perspective
While we are holidays, it is important to keep learning. We should keep learning by exploring new things. Try new sports or activities! Paddle boarding is great to develop coordination, core strength and balance. It could be done in a group to develop interpersonal skills as well. Remember: we should be trying to actively involve others with the activities that we are trying. We all like to feel included so it is important to make sure people have the option of joining.
Another option for some holiday fun could be an escape room. Escape rooms are a great way to learn about decision making, negotiating, communication skills and managing stress and pressure. The level of difficulty for escape rooms can vary so choose a difficulty that is appropriate for the group. This activity will be able to provide the person an opportunity to learn about themselves: how they respond pressure, how they respond to challenges and successes and their ability to work in a team. Persistence in the face of adversity is a great value to pursue from this activity.
On a more serious note, you can also use this time to help others you are not as fortunate as us. Giving time to a great cause and helping others is always a great way to remind us of how fortunate we are. There are many organisations that could help you with donating your time like The Salvation Army, St Vincent De Paul, The Smith Family or Foodbank. While we may not be given financial reimbursement for our time, we do get that feeling that we are a part of something bigger.
Finally, spend this time to regroup, rest and rejuvenate – however you like to do that. After that, it is time to come back to school with smile on your face and a spring in your step ready to learn. Enjoy the rest of the year and time away from school. Merry Christmas and have a happy new year.
