Alum | Kayla-Maree Tarantolo

Kayla-Maree Tarantolo, an alumna since 2014, discovered her passion for dance at a young age. At 11, she performed as young Clara in the Australian Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker. It was during this time, watching the professional ballerinas with awe, that she realized her dream of becoming a professional dancer. Since joining Scottish Ballet, Kayla-Maree’s approach to dance has evolved significantly. She has come to understand the importance of truly knowing the story behind each role. This deeper connection to her characters has enhanced her performances, allowing her to execute choreography with a new level of authenticity and emotional depth.

Kayla-Maree draws inspiration from renowned artists such as Marianela Núñez and former Scottish Ballet Principal Sophie Martin, whose talent and character continue to inspire her daily. Known for her lively and joyful personality, she brings a light and fun atmosphere to the studio, often filling rehearsals with laughter and positive energy. Throughout her career with Scottish Ballet, she has cherished moments like performing as Gretel in Christopher Hampson’s Hansel & Gretel and learning the role of Cinderella, which she performed during the 2018/19 winter tour. Outside of the studio, Kayla-Maree has a deep appreciation for Scotland’s beautiful landscapes, particularly the Highlands, where she enjoys escaping to reconnect with nature.
